Mr. Trump,

You are the 45th President of the United States. You are a rich businessman, well known by the general public due your showcasing on realty TV show. I do not know many things. I am not an international politics’ expert. I am a simple Maghrebian citizen and I remember, how in my youth, we were awed by the United States. This is certainly due to your talented diplomats. In those days the American dream still inspired the world. Today, not only is this dream over, but the country we admired from afar, in our third world, is in full decline. Today, we are looking in other directions: Angela Merkell’s Germany or Justin Trudeau’s Canada and even Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with his powerful speech when meeting his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. Those are political leaders who advance to the top. Prudently showing temperance, ensuring the welfare of their countries. Mr. Trump, what if you followed their example?

We can hardly forget the speech of US Ambassador Nikki Haley to the UN Security Council, following your recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and deciding to transfer the US embassy there. Tell me, Mr. Trump, are you president of the United States of America, or do you see yourself as an emperor, about to conquer the world by sweeping away all those who do not agree with you? Your recognition echoes an election promise.

” In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”(Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States of America).

You named Jared Kushner, your son-in-law (Ivanka’s husband) as High Counselor to the President of the United States, disregarding the obvious conflicts of interest. It’s no secret to anyone that your son-in-law Mr. Kushner and his parents were at the helm of a foundation that fundraised $ 325,860 for an organization raising donations benefitting the Israeli army: Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF). Between 2011 and 2013, the Kushner Foundation donated $ 58,500 to yeshivas in Israeli settlements and $ 38,000 to the American Friends of Beit El, a colony renowned for its radical opposition to the peace process between Israel and Palestine.

Mr. Trump, are you impartial? Are you making the right choices? Does the Shoah and the Holocaust justify the abusive behavior of the Israeli army, the intensive colonization in defiance of all the international treaties, without taking into account human rights?

Palestine will always remain the legitimate land of the Palestinians, even if that doesn’t please you Mr. Trump. We, who live in the Arab world, we are for peace. We aspire to a better world. A just, peaceful and equitable world.

I live in a country where the emancipation of women is a daily. Our women are fighting for their rights, for a better Tunisia. Our women empower each other. They are the real guarantors of our future and the first shield against the fundamentalism that threatens to send us back to the Middle Ages. At our side, stand our lions. Mr. Trump, do you know, who those lions are? Those are the men who sacrifice every moment, every minute of their lives to protect our country. They belong to the police, to the national guard, to the army. They stand together against the obscurantists and fundamentalists with strength and courage and very few means at their disposal. Their valor is matched only by their determination and their bravery inspires us. Some of them gave their lives for our safety and that of our children. They were determined to protect us and paid this will at a high price: that of their lives. Peace to them and to the purity of their souls. They all have a lot of merit and they deserve all our respect.

I did not do any major studies. My father left me no fortune. But the education I received allowed me to understand that wisdom is a virtue that cannot be learned at school nor be bought.

And as the honorable President Georges Washington so aptly put it, ” Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness”

I will leave you with that to your conscience Mr. Trump.

Freedom for Palestine!
